This Libyan Desert Tektite is very lovely. With amazing color and luster this specimen would make a great addition to anyone's collection. This beauty measures almost 1 1/2 inches long by 3/4 of an inch wide by 5/8 of an inch thick.
Libyan Desert Tektite is an extremely pure form of silica, some pieces having a high iridium content, a typical meteoric material like Moldavite. Tektites are primarily glass content objects, formed by a large meteor strike on the Earth's surface. Unlike Moldavite, however, Libyan Desert Tektite has been estimated at 28 million years old, in excess of 10 years older than Moldavite.
